F-8 Crusader (The Last Gunfighter)
The Vietnam war ended on my birthday in 1975. I moved from VF-124 to Top Gun for a short stay, then to VF-211 also at Miramar. In 1974, we went to Alameda, California to load up "birds", tools & personnel for what we were going to discover was the USS Hancocks last cruise and the eventual end of the war in Vietnam. So, finding not only an F-14 Tomcat patch, but a patch depicting the f-8 Crusader's which I worked on was astounding. These patches along with additional ones helped me to tell a story about my time in the Navy & Vietnam, was priceless. All of my kids have heard my stories, viewed my cruise books, & asked about the patches & Medals on my jacket & what they stand for, can be a true history lesson for a younger generation who takes an interest. Again, the colors, stitching, & quality construction, brings a view of realism as I share my time there with others here.
