Description
Three patches for Cold War service, all carrying the same dates: 1945 to 1991. That is the span the Department of Defense uses for the Cold War Recognition Certificate, from Japan's surrender aboard USS Missouri on September 2, 1945 to the end of the Soviet Union on December 26, 1991.
The set pairs the Cold War Veteran patch with the Gray Hair patch, whose yellow and black radiation trefoil hung on weapons storage areas, reactor spaces and missile sites for four decades, and the Silent Service patch for the submarine force.
