Description

A large 442nd Fighter Wing patch: a head-on A-10 Thunderbolt II laid across red KC letters on an orange arrowhead with a black border. The KC points to the wing's long history in the Kansas City area.

The 442nd is an Air Force Reserve fighter wing that flies the A-10 Thunderbolt II, the Warthog, from Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. It completed its move to Whiteman in June 1994 from Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base south of Kansas City, after the 1991 base closure commission recommended closing Richards-Gebaur. Its flying squadron is the 303rd Fighter Squadron.

The wing flew Operation Southern Watch in 1998 and combat search and rescue for Operation Northern Watch from Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, in 2000. After September 11, 2001 it deployed to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, and in April 2003 it flew from Tallil Air Base during Operation Iraqi Freedom. It returned to Afghanistan in 2006, 2008, 2011 to 2012 and 2014.

Size: 7 x 4.06 inches. Cut edge. Iron-on backing; it can also be sewn on.

A good fit for a flight jacket or a hangar wall, and a gift for anyone who flew, fixed or armed Hawgs with the 442nd and the 303rd.
