Description

The 212th Rescue Squadron patch carries the Alaska state outline on a globe — a reminder that their operating area isn't a comfortable one, and the people who need rescuing up there are usually in serious trouble. This shield-shaped patch is rendered in gray and burgundy, with "THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE" arcing across the top scroll and "212TH RESCUE SQUADRON" along the bottom. A winged angel figure descends with a parachute canopy overhead, and "ALASKA" is written across the globe beneath — over the blue silhouette of the state that defines the 212th's mission.

The 212th Rescue Squadron is the Alaska Air National Guard's combat rescue unit, based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage. They fly the HH-60G Pave Hawk and HC-130J in the most demanding rescue environment in the United States — Alaska's terrain, weather, and distances create scenarios that make other rescue environments look forgiving. Every member of the 212th knows what it means to execute a rescue when the ground is gone under ice and the weather has shut down everyone else.

The patch is shield-shaped with a gray field and burgundy scrolls and border. The angel figure at center is embroidered in white and gray, wings spread wide with the parachute canopy visible above. The globe below carries the Alaska state silhouette in blue, with "ALASKA" lettered across it in white. The design is quietly serious, which fits a unit that operates in one of the world's most unforgiving environments.

For 212th RQS veterans, Alaska ANG alumni, or collectors focused on the northern rescue community, this patch tells a specific story. Alaska rescue is its own discipline. The 212th has been doing it for decades.

"That Others May Live." In Alaska, that phrase carries extra weight. This patch was earned in conditions most rescue crews never train in.
