Description

She prowled the Pacific during the final, furious months of World War II, and she kept on serving long after the last shots were fired. The USS Razorback (SS-394) is one of the most storied submarines in American naval history — a Balao-class fleet submarine commissioned in 1944 that went on to earn five battle stars in the Pacific Theater and later became a frontline Cold War warrior during decades of service with the U.S. Navy. Named for the razorback hog, a creature known for its toughness and tenacity, she lived up to that name in every patrol and every dive.

Razorback's wartime record was no small thing. She conducted war patrols in some of the most contested waters of the Pacific, and she was present on September 2, 1945 — one of only a handful of submarines to witness Japan's formal surrender in Tokyo Bay. That moment alone is written into the pages of history, and every sailor who ever served aboard her carries a piece of it. After the war, she transitioned seamlessly into the Cold War undersea mission, continuing to serve the Navy until 1970 before being transferred to Turkey, where she served as TCG Murat Reis until 2000 — giving her one of the longest active service careers of any U.S. submarine ever built.

Today, the Razorback is preserved as a museum ship at the Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where a new generation can walk her decks and imagine what it meant to serve in those tight, steel compartments beneath the sea. For those who served aboard her, or who carry the pride of the Silent Service in their blood, this embroidered patch is a tangible piece of that legacy. Add it to your collection and carry that history with you.
