Description
The DDG-108 USS Wayne E Meyer is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy. The ship was named after Admiral Wayne E. Meyer, the "father" of the Aegis Weapon System. The keel of the ship was laid down in 2007 at Bath Iron Works in Maine, and it was commissioned in 2009.
Since its commissioning, the Wayne E Meyer has participated in a variety of operations and exercises, including deployments to the Western Pacific and Middle East. In 2016, the ship successfully intercepted a ballistic missile target during a live-fire test, demonstrating its capabilities as a missile defense platform.
The Wayne E Meyer has also been involved in humanitarian efforts, providing aid to countries affected by natural disasters, such as the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and the typhoon in the Philippines in 2013.
The ship continues to serve in the U.S. Navy today, playing a vital role in the defense of the United States and its allies around the world.
