Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) was activated on August 7, 2009, as a major command (MAJCOM) of the United States Air Force. Created in response to concerns over the stewardship of the nation’s nuclear arsenal, AFGSC consolidated the Air Force’s nuclear-capable bomber and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) forces under one unified command.
