Description

The 381st Bomber Squadron flew the missions that broke German industry in World War II. B-17 crews from the 8th Air Force, Europe. They took losses that would cripple modern units, kept flying anyway. The 381st earned a reputation for getting through to the target even when the escort was spread thin and the flak boxes were working. This patch belongs to a unit that understood the cost of strategic bombing.

Activated in 1942, the 381st flew from English bases starting in 1943. Deep penetrations into German airspace—Schweinfurt, Regensburg, Bremen—meant fighter opposition that shredded formations. They flew Consolidated B-24s and B-17s depending on the mission rotation. Every sortie was a statement of will.

The patch carries bomber squadron tradition—streamlined design, colors that mark the lineage of daylight bombing campaigns, insignia that shows continuity with decades of bomber operations.

For the B-17 driver or the engineer who survived Schweinfurt: this patch honors the crews who carried the war to the enemy's homeland. Sixty-two confirmed aircraft lost from one squadron. The price paid at Regensburg alone reshaped air strategy. That's what this patch remembers.

PopularPatch holds the bomber squadron patches that represent the most sustained air campaign in history. The 381st BS earned every inch of this insignia.
