Description

The 106th Rescue Wing patch is a statement of posture as much as identity — "Readiness Strengthens Liberty" isn't a motto you put on a patch unless you mean it, and the 106th RW has the record to back it up. Shield-shaped, the patch carries a green field with a gold border, a blue Pegasus rearing upward at center, and a red torch at the top — the wing's emblem above and below the winged horse. The bottom scroll carries the full motto: "READINESS STRENGTHENS LIBERTY."

The 106th Rescue Wing is the New York Air National Guard's rescue unit, based at Francis S. Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach on Long Island. They fly the HH-60G Pave Hawk and HC-130 Combat King in the Personnel Recovery mission. The 106th was one of the first National Guard rescue units deployed after 9/11, and their record includes real-world CSAR operations across multiple theaters. The Pegasus on their patch is appropriate — they move fast and cover a lot of ground.

The patch is shield-shaped with a green field and a gold merrow border. The blue Pegasus at center is embroidered with wings spread and forelegs raised, the posture suggesting energy and readiness. The red torch at the top provides a strong focal point. The white scroll at the bottom carries the motto in blue lettering, clean and legible against the lighter background.

For 106th RW veterans, New York ANG alumni, or collectors focused on the National Guard rescue community, this patch represents one of the Guard's most operationally active rescue wings. Long Island has its own coast, its own weather, and its own demand for capable rescue operations. The 106th takes all of it seriously.

Readiness strengthens liberty. The 106th's patch makes the argument. Their service record makes the case.
