SUBMARINE TENDER USS CAMDEN AS-6 Patch The German merchant KIEL, built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft, Flensburg, Germany in 1900, was seized upon American entry into World War I in April 1917, transferred to the USSB 22 May 1917, outfitted as a cargo ship and commissioned in August 1917. In May 1918, she entered Philadelphia Yard for conversion to a submarine tender. Designated AS-6 in July 1920, she served the US fleet in such capacity until decommissioned in May 1931. Converted to a floating barracks in 1940, she served as such until sold for scrap in October 1946.
