T-AH-20 USNS Comfort was originally built as an oil tanker SS Rose City and later converted to a hospital ship in 1976. The USNS designation signifies a ship owned by the Navy but with civilian medical personal performing the daily duties. The USS Comfort has been deployed to numerous conflicts and humanitarian operations, including first and second Persian Gulf Wars, Operation Noble Eagle, and Hurricane Katrina.
